9. EVA Air: Number nine on AirlineRatings.com's list is Taiwanese carrier EVA Air. AirlineRatings surveys a number of key criteria to compile its top airlines, including age of airline fleet, passenger reviews and product offerings.

7. Virgin Atlantic: Virgin Atlantic is number seven on this year's list.

6. Cathay Pacific: Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific is number six, according to AirlineRatings.com's judges.

5. Emirates: Dubai carrier Emirates breaches the top five in AirlineRatings.com's list.

4. Qantas: Fourth best according to AirlineRatings.com is Qantas. Earlier in 2021, the Aussie airline was ranked top in AirlineRatings.com's separate ranking of the world's safest airlines.

3. Singapore Airlines: Singapore Airlines previously won best airline back in 2019. This year the carrier also won Best First Class.

2. Air New Zealand: A stalwart of AirlineRatings.com's rankings, Air New Zealand was beaten to first place this year, but came in at number two.

1. Qatar Airways: The "world's best" airline for 2021, according to AirlineRatings.com, is Qatar Airways. "Qatar Airways has always figured highly in our rankings, winning various awards such as Best Business Class but it was the airline's commitment to keeping its route network largely open that attracted the judges' praise - and votes," Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings
