PHOTOS: 41 Indian workers Trapped In Tunnel For 17 Days Rescued
Indian workers were greeted with wild cheers and flower garlands Tuesday as rescuers safely brought out all 41 from the collapsed Himalayan road tunnel where they were trapped after a marathon 17-day engineering operation.
With beaming smiles, the rescued men were welcomed as heroes after being hauled through 57 metres (187 feet) of steel pipe on stretchers specially fitted with wheels, where they were greeted by state officials before embracing their families.
"Hail mother India!" crowds outside the tunnel cheered, as news spread that all had made it safely out of the under-construction tunnel in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, where they had been incarcerated since a partial collapse on November 12.
Relatives outside celebrated after previous hopes of reaching the men were repeatedly dashed by falling debris and the breakdown of multiple drilling machines, in a rescue operation the government said took place in "challenging Himalayan terrain".
"We are thankful to God and the rescuers who worked hard to save them," Naiyer Ahmad told AFP, whose younger brother Sabah Ahmad was among the trapped workers, and who had been camping out in bitterly cold temperatures at the site for over two weeks.
"We are extremely happy, no words can explain it," said Musarrat Jahan, the wife of one rescued worker Sabah Ahmad told AFP by phone from Bihar state, where she had been waiting desperately for news.
"Not only my husband got a new life, we also got a new life. We will never forget it".
After repeated setbacks in the operation, military engineers and skilled miners dug the final section by hand using a so-called "rat-hole" technique, a three-person team working at the rock face inside a metal pipe, just wide enough for someone to squeeze through.
Before Tuesday, the workers were seen alive for the first time last week, peering into the lens of an endoscopic camera sent by rescuers down a thin pipe through which air, food, water and electricity were delivered.

CEO Sam Altman fired
A day after OpenAI’s board of directors fired former CEO Sam Altman in a shock development, investors in the company are plotting how to restore him in what would amount to an even more surprising counter-coup.
Venture capital firms holding positions in OpenAI’s for-profit entity have discussed working with Microsoft and senior employees at the company to bring back Altman, even as he has signaled to some that he intends to launch a new startup, four sources told Forbes.
Whether the companies would be able to exert enough pressure to pull off such a move — and do it fast enough to keep Altman interested — is unclear. https://go.forbes.com/c/cDN3

BINANCE CEO STEP DOWN
Updated: Changpeng “CZ” Zhao stepped down as CEO of Binance as part of a major $4 billion settlement between United States agencies and the cryptocurrency exchange he founded.
The announcement from Zhao and multiple regulatory agencies on Tuesday capped yearslong investigations by the Department of Justice and others into anti-money laundering violations and sanctions violations.
“I made mistakes, and I must take responsibility,” Zhao wrote in a post to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “This is best for our community, for Binance, and for myself.”
In a press statement, Binance said it would take responsibility for not having appropriate compliance controls. “When Binance first launched, it did not have compliance controls adequate for the company that it was quickly becoming, and it should have.
Zhao’s departure as CEO, which was first reported by Forbes, will not be a complete separation from Binance. The company’s founder will remain its majority shareholder, and a resource for “consultation on historical areas of the business,” the company said. It added that Binance executive Richard Teng would succeed Zhao as CEO, confirming Forbes earlier reporting.
As part of the settlement, Zhao appeared in federal court in Seattle on Tuesday afternoon and pleaded guilty to anti-money laundering and sanctions violations brought by the Department of Justice. Additionally, Binance settled charges with the DOJ and Commodities Futures Trading Commission; the Department of Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), which will give the Treasury Department access to Binance’s books and records under the terms of a five-year monitorship.
“Because of the crimes committed, Binance became the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world,” Merrick Garland, the US Attorney General, said during a press conference on Tuesday. “Now, Binance has paid one of the largest corporate penalties in US history.”
The Treasury Department said in a statement that it had taken “unprecedented action” to hold Binance accountable for violations of U.S. anti-money laundering laws. It alleged that Binance had failed to prevent and report “suspicious transactions with terrorists,” citing both Al Qaeda and ISIS. The settlement comes with a $3.4 billion penalty to FinCEN and $968 million to OFAC, as well as compliance requirements and monitoring for a period of five years.
“Binance turned a blind eye to its legal obligations in the pursuit of profit. Its willful failures allowed money to flow to terrorists, cybercriminals, and child abusers through its platform,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen during a press conference.
The CFTC did not respond to requests for comment at the time of publication.
The SEC previously charged Binance and Zhao in June with operating an unregistered exchange and misleading investors by using a Switzerland-based fund Sigma Chain, which was also owned by CZ, to inflate the trading volume on Binance’s U.S. platform. “Through thirteen charges, we allege that Zhao and Binance entities engaged in an extensive web of deception, conflicts of interest, lack of disclosure, and calculated evasion of the law,” SEC chair Gary Gensler said in June. The case is ongoing. The SEC declined to comment.
Brian Armstrong, the CEO and cofounder of Binance’s US competitor Coinbase, hailed the announcement as “an opportunity to start a new chapter for this industry,” in a post on X.
Armstrong, who’s company has faced its own regulatory scrutiny from the SEC, said that he hoped the action against Binance would serve as a catalyst for regulatory clarity.

“Don’t Marry A Man You Are Not In Love With, That's The Reason A Lot Of You Ch£at” – Angela Okorie Tells Ladies
“
She said, “I won’t advise anybody to be in a marriage when you’re not in love with the man. I think that’s the reason a lot of women cheat. In this Lekki, you have too many women who cheat in their marriages.
“For me, I fell out of love. The man [my ex-husband] was a good man. I fell out of love because of what his family was doing. The family didn’t want me to continue acting. They didn’t want me to do anything acting. They were like, ‘If we are going to marry you, you’ll stop doing entertainment.’ And I will be like, ‘Even my mum can’t even stop me. That is my life. Do you know how many years it took me?’
“He [my ex-husband] was in support of me. He doesn’t even stress me but because of the whole saga, it was like I was in a place where the people didn’t even understand my vision. They don’t understand what I’m chasing.
“You need to chase it with me. This is what your wife wants. You can’t k!ll my dream. This is what I’ve worked for so many years to get here. So, you can’t just wake up and say, “Because you want to marry me, give up on my dreams.”
